Passwords and protections...
With “Hypertext >Passwords” you get this window, where you can assign a password to a page or to a group of pages.
Click "Add +" to add a password to the global password list. In this sample we added the password "mickey".
Then select the password. In the bottom left, a button will show "Add 'mickey' to all pages". Press this button to protect all the pages with the pass "mickey".
In case you want to protect some pages only, just check them in the right list. For example see below: we have defined just one password, "mickey", that is applied to 3 pages. You can use up to 127 different passwords (127 for each user if you use "custom password for each user"); commonly people use 1 or 2 passwords.
To see which pages are without a password, click the “See pages without pass” button.
When the selected password is “*none*” (i.e. nothing is selected on the left) you can choose which pages won’t be password protected.
This second image shows that you can choose a different password for each user. For the reader “john smith” the password will be “WYTRQs” (in this case, “mickey” is just a seed for the reader’s password). This setting is global for the whole ebook, and in the example applies to 3 pages.
Please notice that the same exe file has to be given to all customers: it's only name/password that would be different. The dialog window just incorporates a password calculator utility (you can calculate any number of password on the fly without having to save the ebook). When they match the customer can see the ebook.
So, first you save a single exe ebook (you can put it on your Website), second for each customer you enter name and email and the program can calculate individual passwords. You insert first customer name and email, calculate password(s), copy it on an email or to a doc, then insert second customer name and so on...
In conclusion, for each customer you can provide: a copy of the ebook; name email and password that they must use to see the ebook.
Copy and print protection, expiration date
With “Hypertext >Current hypertext properties” you get the following window where you can specify when copy and/or print features should be disabled. You can also set an expiration date for your ebook.
If the expiry date is February 23, 2010, the document will be visible until midnight of the 23, so it actually expires the first second of the 24th.
